| 82913 | 2002-09-28 01:10:00 | I've got a non-qualififcation in IT. Did most of a course at what was then ATI in Aucks for a NZ Cert in Computer Science in '87. Data General with 90 terminals, real slow if more than about a third of the us were doing spreadsheets. Studied comp. history and architecture and Critical Path Analysis (one of the niftiest things I've ever seen) and wrote progs in wonderful COBOL. The reason I didn't finish was two weeks work experience in a beige basement cubicle for a firm on Great South Road. A chair a desk a terminal and a bunch of manuals. Yuk. And paper and pencil. They wouldn't let me actually do anything so I had a tutu around anyway and busted into their object code and then I got chucked out the back to tidy up the storeroom. I enjoyed/enjoy writing code but the work environment put me off. I like being outside where you can f*rt like a human being. As for other quals, yeah got a BA (Pol Sci) yonks back, 76. Always been a handy ticket. It's like " Oh wow, you've got a degree so you must be able to read and put things back where they came from." Y'know, basic organisational stuff. I only ever finished that because I thought it would come in handy and yes it has. Also got a TEFL qual. Cheers, nice topic, Mark C with a :) |
