82530 2002-09-24 10:46:00 Generally it is good to avoid spaces in file names for sites.
but that shouldn't be the problem as it is the file you are linking FROM.

Yes the "start" point is "index.htm" (or index.html) This is a seperate issue and effects what loads when you get to a site, not what the links go to.

82531 2002-09-24 11:05:00 Its got me stumped.....

I might have to sleep on it and attack it again tomorrow.

Thanks for all your Ideas, will let you know how I get on tomorrow. I bet it is something realy obvious that I am missing.

Thanks for your help

82532 2002-09-24 11:12:00 if it is not too long, select the code and paste it in a post so we can look at it.

I am a very tidy person, so I have all my websites in their own folder. Main sections of each website have their own folder inside each website folder. index.htm is in the main folder along with a few other important pages.

If index.htm AND nextpage.htm are in the same folder, then the link should be:

Nextpage (nextpage.htm)

watch the case and file extension.

Don't worry about the files with ~1st in the front, these are temporary files 1st page creates when you preview the page. they should disappear once you quit the program. Ignore these files and stick to your originals.

82533 2002-09-24 11:21:00 Ok here goes, this is the actual code:

<table>
<tr>
<td width=55%><h1><font face="georgia ref" color="#993300"><ul>
<A HERF="Southdown.html">Southdown</A>
Southsuffolk
Dorset Down[/list]</font></h1></div></td width=55%>
<td>file:///C|/My Documents/My Pictures/Sheep/DMM 07a.JPG</td>
</tr>
</table>

Is this what you need? As you can see it is the Southdown.html that is giving me grief.

82534 2002-09-24 11:27:00 EASY!!

you have herf, not href - your "r" and "e" are around the wrong way - just a typo.

Glad you posted that code or esle everyone would have been guessing for weeks!!

82535 2002-09-24 11:32:00 Oh, and while I'm at it - copy that picture to your website directory, and change the link to a relative one eg if the picture is in a folder called graphics inside your website folder, the link should be

graphics/DMM 07a.JPG

or if it is in the same folder as index.htm

DMM 07a.JPG

Also, remove the space in the filename (replace it with an underscore "_" if you want. Also, remember that filenames are case sensitive. You may want to change JPG to jpg to keep all yor extensions in lower case - saves confusion.

Also, decide on whether to use htm or html and jpg or jpeg and stick with it otherwise you will end up in a tangle.

82536 2002-09-24 11:34:00 And in case your wondering why I told you to copy the pic etc - if you ever upload the site to the web, unless your PC is constantly hooked to the webserver, users are not going to be able to access the picture as it is on your HD.

ALWAYS make a copy of the pic and put it in the web directory, and use a relative link to link to it.

82539 2002-09-24 11:37:00 Don't sweat it, sometimes you just need someone else to proof read it. Your mistakes aren't always obvious to yourself.
