82409 2002-09-24 06:29:00 ... of course, avoid d:\setup\custom\setup.exe because Murphy will strike you down when the inevitable happens and the CD drive is not d: :_| Graham L (2)
82410 2002-09-24 06:42:00 We have a FAQ (pressf1.co.nz) on how to make a CD autorun.

A quick browse shows that it looks pretty much what you guys have said but if there are things missing maybe the gaps could be filled in for other users of the FAQ. :-)

82411 2002-09-24 07:11:00 OK, looks like I was wrong. I was able to make my CD autorun from an .exe not in root. I am sure that that wasn't the case in the past.

I copied some files from an old PC World Cd and got it to work as the PC Wold one did.

I then put all of those files inside a folder called test on the CD, but left the autorun.inf file in the root directory.

I change autorun to read

[autorun]
open=test\setup.exe
icon=test\PCW.ico

It worked!!

I then tried the same layout, but with autorun.inf like this:

[autorun]
open=\test\setup.exe
icon=\test\PCW.ico

This time it didn't work.

I have windows XP Pro, so maybe that makes a difference.

Oh, and the file to be opened MUST be an .exe, so if you want to autorun an HTML doc, you have to create a .exe to run the html doc like the PC WOrld CD's do.

82412 2002-09-24 07:14:00 Hmmm, there's a bug I definitely put the closing pre tag - I even hit back and checked.

Wonder why??

I put the closing pre tag in too, and it made everything bold - I even went back and checked that too... how odd

Mike.

82416 2002-09-25 01:53:00 well done - your test worked :) or did it? ?:| Mike (15)
82417 2002-09-25 02:01:00 It didn't work ... I hit Post, not Cancel, after testing with the Preview. :_|

Interesting that this autorun actually wants a relative path. I suppose it's really a cobbled up thing ... so the wonder is that it works at all. I bet it hits the DOS maximum path length (118 characters?) if you try to bury the executable too deep.
