83040 2002-09-25 07:42:00 DW.exe is causing an error and closing itself down (Sad). Anyone know what it does and can I put it out of its misery into the recycle bin? Gerard (1730)
83041 2002-09-25 07:53:00 Gerard,
If you are running Office XP then dw.exe is part of the corporate error reporting mechanism. See DW (www.microsoft.com)

83042 2002-09-25 07:59:00 DW.exe is spyware that comes bundled with certain programs and is installed when the software is installed, most likely from kazaa.

Check in add and remove programs for an uninstaller, and also download a program called Adaware from here. (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/)

Adaware searches out the spyware on your computer and allows you to delete it. However if you are using kazaa and you wish to keep using it you will not be able to delete some of the spyware that is found because it needs it to run. I recomend the use of kazaa lite which doesnt contain the spyware that kazaa does. You can download that from here (http://www.k-lite.tk).

Hope this helps.

83044 2002-09-25 08:03:00 There are 2 programs called DW.exe.

One is Dr Watson (Microsoft's diagnosis tool) the other is DownloadWare which is ad-ware/Spyware.

If you do not have Microsoft Office installed its likely the latter.

83046 2002-09-25 09:30:00 No Baldy, I think you are thinking of Mr Clippy (or one of its incarnations) the Office Assistant.

83047 2002-09-25 09:39:00 Thanks. It was courtesy of 'downloadware' in prog files (The spyware option I suspect) and has now been dispatched to a digital grave.
Very much appreciate your help

83048 2002-09-25 09:51:00 Ah . . . . . . . Mr Clippy!

Well he's a little know-all, so assumed he was a Doctor, LOL
