83393 2002-09-26 03:20:00 I have an IBM deskstar 7200 RMP Drive ( yes I know ) anyway I noticed recently that it is running in PIO mode rather then UDMA 5.

System Specs:

- Soltek DRV4 MB ( latest BIOS )
- ATA 100/133 IDE Cables
- IMB Desktart 7200 RMP 40 gig
- Windows XP Professional
- Latest VIA 4'n1's ( 4.43 )

What I have done to fix it so far:

- UDMA is enabled in bois
- Have tried setting drive to PIO only mode Reboot , back to UDMA if avaliabe reboot
- Removed the {4D36E97B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\Device ID ( or whatever ) key from the registery
- Ran the IBM feature tool on the drive which said it should run in UDMA 5 , dropped it to UDMA 4. The Firmwear on the hdd flashed ... powered off , rebooted. No Change
- Ran a UDMA66.reg file
- Prayed to budda
- Tried a different IDE Cable , Differnent Plugs ( I cant slave it as it the only drive I have as my 10 gig just died on me ).
- Wept
- Installed the IDE part of the 4'n'1's Seperatly
- Reinstalled Windows

Other Stuff:

- My 6 year old quantim bigfoot runs on UDMA 2 on the secondary IDE channel as does my CDR
- When slaved with my primay hdd they still run in UDMA

Any other Ideas?

Ill be trying the drive in another machine this weekend to see if the fault is with the hdd or the ide controlor.

83396 2002-09-27 03:26:00 cards......as in sound cards, lan cards, modems etc. sometimes you can get a conflict with the drivers. easy way to check is to remove all the cards and see if problem still exists. tweak'e (174)
