83703 2002-09-27 05:58:00 Does anyone use winMX?
I've been using it for ages now and never had a problem with it.
And it seems that everyday I read more about KaZaA and its associated problems....why do you guys use it?

:)

83704 2002-09-27 06:06:00 In my experience, Kazaa is a whole lot more easy/basic. There's little control over MP3 searching (Specified Bitrate), or at least, within immediate access. Kazaa has spyware (Why they made Kazaa Lite).
I've not tried the most recent version of kazaa, so it may have changed, but I prefer WinMX anyday!

There are others out there other than those two, I thik there's even a kiwi made one too!

83705 2002-09-27 06:14:00 I used winMX solely back in the days of Napster as it hooked in to that network. When the nap closed down, winMX took a wee while to pick up on the new networks, so I jumped to the most popular app at the time - Morpheus. I tried various gnutella variants and didn't like them. Also tried audio galaxy etc, but nothing compared to morpheus. When morpheus went to gnutella, I jumped to the oly other shman networks alternative - Kazaa. I had almost had enough of the spyware when I discovered Kazaa Lite.

I have been there ever since?

Why do so many people use Kazaa??? Well you answered your own question. The more people on a particular network, the better results you get. The better the results, the more likely you are to use it - it's a loop.

I will try winMX again if Kazaa ever gives poor searches or slow results or is pulled off the web.

Until then, Kazaa gives me everything I want at decent speeds.

83706 2002-09-27 06:30:00 The first P2P program I used was Kazaa Media Desktop, after learning that it contained spyware and adware I then un-installed it and cleaned out the spyware/adware on my computer and started using kazaa lite which does not contain any. I used kazaa lite for a long time then switched to DC++ and used it to connect to a New Zealand only hub hosted by orcon. At first DC++ looked a bit complicated and the interface unattractive but after i started using it I now love it. I find that I get much higher speeds than I ever have on kazaa (at the moment I'm downloading at 4.5kbps), and there is still a wide selection. I do still use kazaa lite now and then for those songs I can't find on DC++ but that isn't very often.

For more info on DC++ go here. (http://www.p2p.net.nz)

83707 2002-09-28 02:14:00 Thanx Guys given me a bit to think about...off to download Kazaa Lite and DC++.
I've been searching for some early west coast (US) punk that I used kick to as a kid so increased search possibilities help greatly.
