| 83558 | 2002-09-26 22:31:00 | If I'm thinking of the right thing, XHTML won't get full acceptance as an HTML standard, as it's adding far too much crap to a website. When people are trying to make them small, this is making it bigger. I mean, having to close a - what's the point of that? And lots of other stuff which we shouldn't need to use a close tag for, XHTML wants one. Mike. |

Well if you go here (validator.w3.org) you will see that the website does meet the requirements of the W3C. In actual fact most of the W3C sites are in XHTML ;) |

But most of it is unnecessary, and a waste of time - that's why it'll never catch on. the W3C sites are in XHTML because they want it to be the new standard (silly people), and that's what they're calling it (the XHTML standard) but it isn't being used by web designers. | 83562 | 2002-09-28 02:16:00 | > W3C are actually in the process of makin it THE > standard, in my opinion, its great No, it's not. Why do you think it's so great? It can't do anything more than what HTML 4 can do (in fact, it can probably do less), and you add about a 1/4 again to any code you'd write in HTML4 with all the extra closing tags you have to use, which you don't have to use in HTML 4. It's pointless, and will never be "THE standard" (as you call it) because all top web designers won't use it. They can't make it the standard if nobody will use it. Mike. |
