83520 2002-09-26 11:01:00 Anybody out there use their PC as an Answering Machine? If you do what software do you use? Does it have, speakerphone ability, caller-id? Also does it allow you to connect to the internet without disabling the answer machine? markl (1936)
83521 2002-09-26 11:33:00 yes to just about all.I have used winfax pro 8,which has Talkworks as part of it( the later versions don't have talkworks, you have to buy it seperatly)but it worked very well, easy to set up and use.I liked it,though now use Telecom's Call minder instead,as itwill answer while I'm on the net.

83522 2002-09-26 12:08:00 You need to ensure that your modem is capable of voice before purchasing software. many of the late model cheaper internal modems do not support it.

Re your question on connecting to the internet without disabling the answerphone, not sure what you are meaning exactly, but if you are using dial-up internet connection on the same phone line, you cannot receive calls anyway, as your phone line is engaged.

I have tried the activity, but as I dont want to leave the PC on 24/7 I found it much easier and more convenient to use a separate answerphone. As Peter said, call minder has the advantage of being active while you are on the internet as it is at the Telecom end.

CallCenter is a FREE 32-bit, integrated fax, voicemail and data communications application with a simple to use interface providing fax send and receive functionality, basic (single mailbox) answering machine capability, and sophistcated data communications. Well worth checking out.

83524 2002-09-27 04:00:00 Crozier - I found that CallCenter didn't have a default Greeting message and I've been unable to add my own. Did/does it work for you and do you have caller id working? markl (1936)
83525 2002-09-30 00:25:00 I haven't used it for ages - I re-downloaded it a little while ago but haven't got around to trying the latest version. I install it soon and see what I can do with it.... crozier (2004)
83526 2002-09-30 04:00:00 Hi...

Thanks for the info, as been searching for a answer phone, but they seem to be USA restricted. So will try CallCenter, and is there a charge for the internet answerphone ?...

Cheers...

83527 2002-09-30 05:18:00 The Internet AnswerPhone only works for USA and Canada so far. They have been promising a version for others for over a year now. You also need to pay Telecom/TelstraClear to have Call Diversion for this to work. Please let me know how you get on with CallCenter. markl (1936)
83528 2002-09-30 11:45:00 I've used Call Center for a couple of years and you do have to record your own greeting. Go to the "Greeting" button and open. there are options to use your soundcard or modem speaker to record. I have a headset with the mike plugged into the card output at the back of the PC box (pink or red coded). Works really well but only when off line.
The new V.92 modems (not uch ISP support as yet) are supposed to handle incoming calls while on the net.
