83622 2002-09-27 04:46:00 you may be right - we probably did go to 4.7 in SP1 - I never really noticed (don't use it much) until yesterday when it offered to update it.

83623 2002-09-27 04:55:00 Hey, Out of curiosity, I know you can break the limit of sending text, upto 3000 Characters instead of the usual 1500 or something, but can you break the length of the name, even just by about 20 characters???

83624 2002-09-27 04:59:00 How long do you want it to be? I just changed my Messenger name to 79 characters no prob... probably would have gone longer.

83625 2002-09-27 05:09:00 I think its a bit longer than that, never measured it exactly but! I find I'm always reaching the name limit... Chilling_Silence (9)
83626 2002-09-27 06:09:00 One more MSN thing.. I can't run half these "Messers". I know I had them gong at one stage after doing some mucking around, but it comes up with:
Failed to lead control 'SSTab' from tabctl32.ocx. Your version of tabctl32.ocx may be outdated. Make sure you are using the version of the control that was provided with your application.

I've re-installed MSN, and one of the prgs offers to get it for me, but that still wont work!

Any help??

83627 2002-09-27 11:05:00 MSN 5 is about if you know where to look. But personally I'm using Trillian at the moment. Because I can use the one program for both MSN and ICQ and others if I wanted.

But not only that, more for the reason that I don't get kicked with Trillian where I did with MSN as soon as I started to download something. I think MSN (WIndows Messenger) has a major problem with bandwith.

Also my WIndows Messenger is 4.7.0041 which either got updated with SP1 or it was already that version from when I'd first upgraded after installing XP.

83628 2002-09-27 22:49:00 i'm following easy message. it's in beta at the mo, but looks very promising. I read bad comments about the new versions of trillion, so decided to go for easy message.
www.easymessage.net
totally free, compatible with MSn, yahoo, icq and aim, I think.... possibly others

83629 2002-09-27 22:50:00 oh, and I should mention it's a 200kB download. YES, 200 kilobytes. Much smaller memory usage than MSN... less memory is good... loser (538)
83630 2002-09-28 00:36:00 Thanks for the tip. I'm gonna download it now. -=JM=- (16)
83631 2002-09-28 02:04:00 yep, easymessage rocks, you can get it from http://easymessage.net/ .i like it cos its a really small download, and i supports most (if not all) messenge type things. the only problem i have is ithas no visual indication of whats happening when ur loging in, and thats very helpful if your on a shoddy connection

also, for messenger 5, you can go to http://mess.be/ , it has a few links to msn messenger 5, but it looks pretty shabby, and is mainly for xp users i think, cos i downloaded it, and i didnt really like it (im on win98, rah!)

but yeah, also, theres this utility at mess.be that increases the amount of chars you can use to about 1000 (i think), but its mainly for doing huge emoticon pictures in teh message box, not sure if it changes how may chars you can use in ur nick )
