| 83607 | 2002-09-27 04:11:00 | Okay, well, I had 98 on a 200Mhz, but when installing 2K (Clean) it went like HELL comapared to what it had been, its got 128MB RAM, and it just goes slow As! My laptop which is 120Mhz and has only 48 MB RAM goes faster. COuld it be because this isn't enabled (Laptops running Win2K also) Chilling_Silence |

| 83608 | 2002-09-27 04:48:00 | According to the information I have on L2 cache note the following: The registry value SecondLeveldataCache is a REG_DWORD data item that configures the size of the secondary processor cache (L2 Cache). A value of 0 (zero) (the default which means the system default of 256KB is in effect) sets the cache size to that referenced in the Hardware Abstraction Layer (HAL) or to 256KB if the HAL doesn't detect the L2 cache. Any other data value is interpreted as the size of the L2 cache in kilobytes. Note that firstly the registry data is referenced by Win2k / WinXp ONLY if the system can't get the information about the L2 cache from the HAL. Secondly it only works for computers that have direct-mapped L2 caches, which means older machines because PII and later processors don't have direct-mapped L2 caches. Even if the computer has a direct-mapped L2 cache, the performance change is so negligible you probably won't notice the difference. So why bother... Babe. |

| 83610 | 2002-09-27 05:17:00 | Maybe it's like the "cache" chips which were supplied with some 486 motherboards. ;-) Enabling/disabling the cache made no difference to performance. That is reasonable, because the "chips" had no silicon inside the plastic package. :O . Some importers were embarrassed. Buying on price ... | Graham L (2) | ||
