83781 2002-09-27 11:15:00 Is it possible to get rid of all the "spam" at once, instead of just 1 at a time? I know how to delete the lot, in the delete folder, but is it necessary to go 1 by 1 ....from Inbox to Delete?

I asked an "Innocent" man, of my acquaintance, but he was too busy getting his "Milo" ready....;) for night time. He's a real live wire, that guy!! :8} :8}
:O

83783 2002-09-27 11:40:00 If you are getting as much spam as that then it is time to review where you are leaving you email address.
If you are careful where you leave your email address spam can be kept under reasonable control
If you sign up for newsletters, mailing lists etc on websites you can expect it to be found eventually. If an email address is required on a website for something and a reply is not necessary consider using a fake address. Many people use a throwaway address such as Hotmail for this type of thing and keep their ISP email address just for personal use for family, friends etc.

If things get really out of control consider changing your email address and starting fresh.

Some Basics

Be careful about where you leave your email address. If you post to newsgroups or have your email address on your web-page, a robot will find you eventually.
If you're downloading software or filling out web forms, be careful about which boxes you tick or leave ticked that might in fact be disguised spam invitations.
Never respond to spam. If the offer you've received is too good to be true, then you're probably safe to treat it like a lie.
Many spammers will ask you to notify them if you'd like to be removed from their mailing list. In most cases this is a trap. All you are doing is confirming to them that your email address is active. The spammer will remove you from the list all right, and simply put you on another list entitled "Guaranteed Email Addresses" that he can sell to other spammers at a higher price.

83784 2002-09-27 11:57:00 Thanks guys . . . . .

Do any of you ever get any sleep . ? You should be like Poppa John, and make a "Milo" and off to bed .

At least . . . . that's what he SAYS!***! .

Had 35 in Delete file, and another 13 x Inbox , in 1 day . . . . . is that the norm? Dont leave address now, but made a few mistakes early on .

(Dont we all . . . better NOT have a Forum on THAT topic . )

83785 2002-09-27 12:11:00 Too late Maryann,
Theres already a discussion on that just a few threads away.

Theres some really over the top spammers harvesting from this forum,.
I'm getting more spam on my old pugwash@ihug.co.nz address than the real email (such as press f1 notifications) i get on my real address.

If your going to put an email address up here, make it disposable and/or munge it well

Munging means writing it in a way that won't work such as
"my-name A B S O L U T L Y----N O---@--S P A M my.domain.co.nz"
This makes it useless to the robots that WILL read it, but people can soon edit it back to my-name@my.domain.co.nz, and use it if need be.

83786 2002-09-27 12:30:00 O.K, Chris...thanks....but I'll have to use some daylight hours to try to work it all out. What the HECK is a disposable e-mail address.? I understand the words, but not what you DO to GET....USE...etc.
I did look at the discussion a while ago..re the amount of spam you are getting......will go back for another peep, and the off to bed.

83787 2002-09-27 12:36:00 >What the HECK is a disposable e-mail address.?

example:
maryann7935465@hotmail.com

At risk of being flamed, i think ALL hotmail is good for is quick disposible email addresses, you sign up, spread them round, spammers get them, you get another one for the next week, before the spam starts coming thick and fast.

meanwhile spammers waiste their time and bandwidth spamming a "retired account", atleast till the mailbox is full, and too many bounce back to them.

83788 2002-09-27 12:43:00 RIght.! I THINK I understand. Thanks. Maryann (2010)
83789 2002-09-27 12:56:00 When I am asked to post my email addy, I just make up anything, eg: Ivor_Biggun@xtra.co.nz

I never get any spam (well hardly any anyway) Some of it can be interesting though ;-)

Tell that Poppa to drink Horlicks.....

83790 2002-09-27 12:57:00 Obviously this is something you would do for posts in something like this forum. Any ongoing contact that may be established can by done with your real e-mail address, which should be guarded, for obvious reasons! Chris Wilson (431)
