83666 2002-09-27 03:29:00 Frustrations. Have just spent $40-00 at the comp technician to have scanner fixed . Worked in shop but when I got home it wouldn't. Hubby and I discovered that it will not run with the printer on. I feel we have paid the money for nothing
Scanner is Umax Astr2000u and printer is Canon S300.Both USB connections. Do I need to change the settings??? and how???
The scanner works perfectly by itself.
Thanks

83667 2002-09-27 04:27:00 What OS?? I had more probs than I could count with my scanner under XP. it turned out to be a problem with my scanner and motherboard. The solution at the time was to buy a separate USB card. Updated drivers improved the situation, but only slightly.

I used to keep the darn thing unplugged and only plug it in when I needed it as it seemed to work better that way.

I recently installed XP SP-1 and noticed by accident that the problem seemed to go away. I haven't had it plugged in long enough to fully test it, but been plugged in for about three days now with out the original probs resurfacing.

If you have XP try the service pack.

83668 2002-09-27 04:45:00 Hi Graham

Have just spoken to the technician and it appears I need to buy a USB card another $60-00. That's $100-00 because I bought a new printer. They don't tell you that when you buy something.
By the way we have Windows 98
Thanks Graham

83669 2002-09-27 05:00:00 Yes, problems with onboard USB seem to be quite common. Oh well, you will end up with a few spare USB ports, and since most devices are going this way now, I am sure they will come in handy. Also, a separate card is transferable to a new PC if you ever upgrade, so no reals loss. The reason why they probably didn't tell you when you first bought the printer is that device conflicts are unpredictable, and they probably didn't know it would occur.

It happens.

We have decided not to get USB card. Will use separately gets too expensive. Thanks for your input.
