83480 2002-09-26 10:01:00 Dad just came back from overseas, and as a part of the shopping list I gave him, I asked for some DDR333Mhz ram... I got a strip of 512mb PC2700 stuff with Nanya chips (Kingston branded) ... so not generic stuff...

For some reason, my mobo doesn't seem to like it very much... I've only got 256mb PC2700 in there at the mo, and my mobo is an Asus P4S533. Have tried taking out the 256 strip and using just the 512mb strip, but it's not even booting!! Combining the two results in a normal boot, but my bios indicates that only 256mb is detected...

Any ideas??? I think I might need to go back to the guys who sold me the PC to ask if they could install it for me... I feel like such a newbie, because I can't think of WHY it won't work!! And before any of you suggest, YES I did install it the right way around.... :_|

83482 2002-09-26 10:14:00 Yeah... that's what I was thinking... hmmm... would passing ram through an x-ray machine cause it to malfunction?? Lohsing (219)
83483 2002-09-26 12:14:00 There is something odd perhaps, your mobo has 3 ram sockets but with 2700 DDR it is limited to 4 banks. Does that mean some socket(s) wont take dual bank sticks....

Tweak'e may know.

And airport scanners/xrays wont hurt RAM

83484 2002-09-26 12:49:00 How did it compare in price to what you pay locally?

83485 2002-09-26 21:43:00 For a "KVR333X64C25/512" ... short for Kingston 512mb DDR333Mhz Nanya chips... it was a princely sum of $275.

I think I will start advertising more on trademe, as dad has offered to buy more strips... I'll try get this one going first! ;)
