| 84075 | 2002-09-28 06:51:00 | Hi. I connect to my ISP (xtra.co.nz) and then will try to get email, surf the net, download mp3 etc. I can DO NONE OF THIS!!- the connection will recieve about 232 bytes then D-D-DIE! I get messages saying "cannot find server" , "host'pop3.xtra..." could not be found etc. etc. I rang the Xtra tech support, it was beyond them. I thought of getting my modem checked...but if I can connect , then it works? - the guy at the store told me it was most likley a config or driver or protocol (TCP/IP i assume) problem than my modem dying. My sys is as AMD 1.41GHZ Athlon XP 256Mb RAM 40Gb HDD 56k internal Intel HaM Fax/Voice/Data Modem Windows XP Home Ed. MYST RESORT TO USING TOTALLY PREHISTORIC 75MHz, 16Mb RAM, 420Mb HDD SYSTEM TO SURF NET!!- LOOSING IT! ************PLEASE HELP SOMEONE!!!!!!*********** Thank You. Ben :-) |

If not- Go to Start/Connect to/Show all connections Right click on the ISP icon and select Properties Select Networking Tab and then Settings Make sure Enable LCP extensions and Enable software compression are both ticked. A piece of spyware called new.net can cause this also. Go to add/remove programs in the control panel. If you find new.net listed there, remove it. Reboot when finished and try the net. If you have new.net and the above does not fixit go to this link (www.computing.net) for further help. |

In Windows XP, the TCP/IP stack is considered a core component of the operating system; therefore, it is not possible to uninstall TCP/IP in Windows XP. |
