2002-09-28 03:40:00 | Using Norton Ghost 2002 - can I ghost an image to another hard drive? If so, how? :) The only options it gives me is to save to CDR or Floppy, but I've got a spare empty HDD in my system that I want to save the image to. Mike. PS The drive I want to Ghost is NTFS - will that be a problem?

2002-09-28 04:26:00 | Hi Mike, Sorry to say that you can't do this in 2002, however it is a "new" feature in 2003! Check it out here www.symantec.com

2002-09-28 05:27:00 | How interesting. So you assert that it is not possible to clone from disk to disk unless using Ghost 2003? Interesting. So page 37 of the manual for version 6.01 is a misprint and I have been erroneously cloning to and restoring images to multiple drives for the last 5 years. Interesting.

2002-09-28 05:34:00 | You'll note the "" around new..... I used ghost years ago doing exactly this, I assumed that they took out the functionality in 2002 (whatever their reasoning might have been). ;-)

2002-09-28 05:46:00 | Don't worry people, it's working now - the problem was that my "spare" drive was converted to a dynamic drive by XP and Ghost wouldn't see it. I changed it back to a "Basic" disk and all works fine :) it surely does work in 2002 edition :) Thanks for your replies though :D Mike.

2002-09-28 07:11:00 | And this was not the question you originally asked . Btw - changing from basic to dynamic disk is not an automatic feature - it requires user input through Disk management - since only 2000 and XP can mount volumes on dynamic disks

I asked if there was a way to save an image direct to a hard disk because I couldn't in Ghost 2002. Then I thought maybe if I changed from Dynamic to Basic that it might give me the option, which it did. So really it was my question, but I answered it. > Btw - changing from basic to dynamic disk is not an > automatic feature - it requires user input through > Disk management - since only 2000 and XP can mount > volumes on dynamic disks And? I went into XP and changed my drive from Dynamic to Basic and then Ghost was able to access it. Mike. |

2002-09-29 04:22:00 | ghost would be about 5 years old. i'm not sure exactly when it was first made, except that it was kiwi made before symantec bought it and called it ghost. | tweak'e (174) | |
