83884 2002-09-27 22:51:00 Hi,

I when I restart windows XP just before the normal login screen appears i get a message saying "UNMOUNTABLE_BOOT_VOLUME" If I restart the same thing happens. My computer is less/about 3 months old, has a ATHLON XP 1800+ CPU and 512mb of RAM, more than enough to handle XP.

What can be done,

Thanks VERY much in advance for any help.

83886 2002-09-28 00:14:00 I read that but it says i need the recovery console. How do I install that if i cant get into Windows XP??? bestworldweb (2052)
83887 2002-09-28 00:20:00 You need to boot from your Windows XP cd...this will let you access the recovery console. Scott Bartley (836)
83888 2002-09-28 02:51:00 Finally its fixed, For all of you that have the some problem do this. Boot off your Win XP cd and eventually you will have the option of pressing "r" to load the recovery console (press "r") (NOTE: before this it asks you for a automated recovery disk - dont choose this) . In the console type "chkdsk /r" (dont type the " and "). Chkdsk takes a long time to run but when its finished everything works well. I reccomend getting the patch from microsoft and also installing linux ( linux.org http: ). bestworldweb (2052)
