83798 2002-09-27 11:45:00 hey all
just got a problem with my old computer an IBM 6X86 PR200+
the setup is as follows:
64mb sdram pc66
20gb HDD C: + D:
matrox mystique graphics card
connected to a voodoo 1 card
1 FDD at A:
2 CD ROM at E: + F:

the problem is after i removed the voodoo1 and sold it the computer wouldnt boot. it would check the memory and then complain about a low battery and wrong cmos display type and would make me enter the bios. after exiting the bios the computer would then try to access b: drive which i dnt have. I cant get past that point and would have to restart and then the whole process would repeat.

i have tried to change the battery but to no resolve. i have also tried to format by using a boot disk but the hard disk could not be found. (though fdisk found it and i was able to delete the partition but not create another one.) the jumpers and everything was setup properly in the hardware.

would be great if anyone could help me here.
thnx

83799 2002-09-27 12:15:00 Did you succeed in changing the battery, or is it a soldered in NICAD type?

Sounds like you need to remove the battery (with the unit unplugged) or set the jumper to disable the battery, in order to reset the BIOS to default. I would suspect its got corrupt settings in the CMOS.

You will have to create the partition with FDISK before you can format, since you have deleted it.

83800 2002-09-28 13:42:00 i changed the battery but the problem still remained. fdisk no longer recognizes my hard disk. (though strangely it managed to delete the partition) the settings in cmos are wrong but it wont save any changes made for reasons unknown. Do you mean that i should remove he battery and then try to start it? jayson_2286 (2046)
83801 2002-09-28 23:25:00 Unplug the PC from the power
Remove the battery.
Wait 5 minutes
Replace the battery
Plug the PC back in
Restart the PC

This should reset the BIOS to factory defaults.
