84351 2002-09-29 05:03:00 Read the Mag. - tried the CD.
Knoppix loaded from CD OK, except that my 5year old monitor [IBM 2248] runs out of scan speed - I get 3 images across the screen.
Checking back in windows, I find it will run 800x600, which I use normally, also 1024x728 - but won't handle the 1280x1024 which I suspect Knoppix uses.
And I can't see enough on the distorted screen to fix it within the session.
Looking through the CD, it seems it might be possible to make a boot floppy which sets the screen speed at boot-up, but I'm not sure how - any ideas out there ?

Thanks

84352 2002-09-29 06:34:00 If you restart in Windows and access the CD there will most likely be a file called disks. In this folder you will find the necessary disk images. There will most likely also be a program called rawrite.exe which you use to create the floppy images.

The problem you are haing is more likely to be with your video card rather than the monitor. A quick check of the Knoppix FAQ suggest a possible work-around by tyoing fb800x600 rather than knoppix at boot-up.

Sorry I can't be of more help, but I don't have knoppix.

84353 2002-09-30 04:15:00 Try using Ctrl/Alt/- to reduce the resolution. (I think that the keypad "+" and "-"are the ones to use. Graham L (2)
84354 2002-09-30 09:48:00 I've been having a wee play with knoppix, and had the same problem, pressing ctrl/alt/- did reduce the resolution down to something poor old Vanessa could handle, but unfortunatly i got a magnificent veiw of the bottom right corner of dialog boxes and so forth.......
With knoppix, it would appear this trick is not entirly useful :(

84355 2002-10-03 11:39:00 Try pressing F1 as the CD boots and at the prompt type: 'knoppix 1024x768' (or 800x600) or 'knoppix vga=normal' might work. Rod J (451)
