84287 2002-09-29 09:24:00 Poppa, I replied to the nice man from Nigeria giving him your e-mail address...hope you don't mind.

I am curious how he got my address. I own the domain name, which is "wild carded". If I send my address to anyone unknown I usually use another name, but this had my real name on it.

Poppa John, before you ask what "wild carding" is, it meand I can use any combination of letters/numbers before the "@" in my address. As long as the domain name (the bit after the @ and before ".co.nz") is correct I will get it.

And no, I am NOT telling you what the domain name is......

84288 2002-09-29 09:42:00 Goddie. Thank you for that kind thought !!!! That wild carding sounds useful will have to give that some thought, Poppa John. Poppa John (284)
84289 2002-09-29 09:45:00 I always use Mailwasher and bounce any email address' I do not recognise or spam.

I don't know why people get so worked up about spam, when there are programs like Mailwasher available as a free download

84290 2002-09-29 09:54:00 Have you considered the effect of bouncing the mail?

Its not recommended as many of the spam senders use ficticitious "from" addresses, which means the spam you bounce, bounces back, is re-bounced etc etc.
Also some unscrupulous spammers use real identities, but of innocent people, who then may bounce your bounce....etc.

All this means we lose precious bandwidth. Recommended action is to delete with Mailwasher.

84291 2002-09-29 09:57:00 wildcarding is great!
I just love getting mail addressed to
*****-*******@my_domain.co.nz, or any other pleasant or generally obscene gestures an imagative mail sender my wish to come up with!

84292 2002-09-29 10:00:00 P.J...why are you hiding in the wardrobe.?....have you been "wild carding"? ;)
Would like to understand all this sort of stuff...but the "thought process" gets in the way. Yeh, yeh....look in FAQ's.....:8} :8}

84293 2002-09-29 10:03:00 OIC...... well actually, I thought the whole idea of the bounce facility, was to make your email account seem "non=existant"

I couldn't care two hoots about anyone elses email address. I only care about my own
