84223 2002-09-29 03:59:00 Ahh yes, but I still need to know whether we need an 8 chip or a 16 chip dimm, is there no where we can find this info? Danger (287)
84224 2002-09-29 04:06:00 Yes there is, you need to look at the web page of the maker of your motherboard, to download the manual. That has all the info in it. godfather (25)
84225 2002-09-29 04:10:00 Have a look at the manual. (The manual might be on a CD ... have a good look at the box of manuals and disks whch came with the machine).

Otherwise, open the box, and have a look at the memory on the board. (If you remove the memory, touch the bare metal in the case before touching the components, do not touch the gold or tin plated contacts on the memory package).

84226 2002-09-29 04:16:00 Ok thanks for your patience godfather, next time I am around there I will have a look at his booklet (if he has one) and search google. I was trying to get him to pick up the dimm? so I could just bowl around and fit it for him, he is not really capable of doing this, or even trying to find the info from google, I'm afraid it is all goobledegook to him. 84227 2002-09-29 05:07:00 Just noticed that you mentioned your friends pc is losing time.......this is a pretty good indication that the cmos battery needs to be replaced...which may also cause other problems....

cmos battery very cheap...up to $7.00.

Might as well spend that at DSE first and see if it helps.
