84878 2002-09-30 23:07:00 I have a Toshiba T2100CS (486) laptop which I use for wordprocessing and C programming assignments at Uni. I have installed a larger harddrive (1.4 Gb) from a similar (T21xx) model. Any documentation that may have existed is long gone or in the bottom drawer of the original owner. How do I access the BIOS settings on the laptop? sjclark (2094)
84879 2002-09-30 23:39:00 No idea if this will help, but recently I helped a friend with his ancient Laptop as well.

Whenever it boots up, it first of all displays the Hitachi Logo (being of that make) and then dups you at the Win98 boot screen wiht no prompt in sight.
In order to circumvent the bios/Hitachi screen, you pressed Escape and then held down the Function key and F1 to get into the bios. Simple.. eh?

For you, I suggest you try a similar method if you have a Function key (ours was next to Ctrl... it's keys denoted by a blue symbol on individual F1-F12 keys) and failing that, simply hold down Delete during boot.

Finally, try looking for help at http://portables.toshiba.com

84880 2002-10-01 00:51:00 There is a DOS version of the BIOS setup program on the Toshiba site called TSETUP I have had to use this in the past to configure older Toshiba laptops.

This version may be the one for your computer:

84881 2002-10-01 05:54:00 Yes, a fair number of laptops use programmes on disk, rather than in the ROM. Have a look for any executables (.com or .exe) with "setup" in the filename. (*setup or setup*).

If your machine has one of these make sure that you keep a bootable DOS disk, with a copy of the programme. If the CMOS loses its values, and doesn't know about the hard disk, and the only copy of the setup programme is on the hard disk ... :_|

84882 2002-10-01 06:01:00 Thanks for the response. Alas on this occassion we have found a point of difference between Hitachi and Toshiba. Response from 'BIFF' put me on the right track. The link you posted may prove useful, ThanX sjclark (2094)
84883 2002-10-01 06:02:00 Thanks for the response. You were right on target. Downloaded Tsetup.exe via link you posted and are now up and running, ThanX sjclark (2094)
