2002-09-30 10:34:00 | OK, we've got Stuart suggesting we install SP1 for WinXP in the October issue, but I wanna know if some of the horror stories of SP1 installations I read about on the Net are true? Has anyone had a good experience? Is it really that necessary? Should we trust what Steve Gibson tells us, especially when there are quite a few people who seem to think he's full of hot air? Views, opinions, etc. greatly appreciated. I have the SP1 .exe file on my HD, but I am not quite convinced I should double-click on it... David

2002-09-30 10:38:00 | Have completed >600 WinXP Pro Sp1 installations and >200 WinXP HE SP1 installationx - absolutely NO problems whatsoever. Will be doing more over the next month or 2... don't expect any issues. I personally don't care what others think/say about Steve Gibson but I do care about my clients security. Babe.

2002-09-30 11:06:00 | Well its pretty hard to top babes odds!!! And i don't think i have seen anybody post on this forum with sp1 related horror stories. What are the problems people are having with sp1??? One thing i do not like and only read in pc world (August pg49)after installing sp1, is the copyright protection feature, which was included in sp1(according to pc world -sept,page 8) - but what could you do?? Not install sp1?? Its a trade off situation really?? And my sp1 install seems to be problem free so far!! | J ZEP (336) | |
2002-09-30 11:07:00 | Chatoyer. I did it without any problems. If this whitehaired old dodo can do it, anyone can. Poppa John. | Poppa John (284) | |
2002-09-30 11:17:00 | I originally installed XP Pro in Feb using NTFS but couldn't do a Ghost image with my version. The installation went really smoothly. 2 weeks ago I did a re-install with Fat 32 then installed SP1 - no problems whatsoever. My 450 P3 system runs really quickly. I'm no expert, just a tinkerer. | Fishb8 (484) | |
