84657 2002-09-30 05:23:00 Knoppix. I'm loving it. Who else has tried it out.
Instantly picked up ethernet drivers (Win2K didn't do that, stick that in your bonnet Bill) and browsing immediately.
One question, MSN for Linux, is there even one? Or do I have to go with one of the free extras. And, If I install it, will it be there when I reboot??

84658 2002-09-30 06:49:00 I liked it's simplicity, but a win modem, and a general lack of free time means that a half hour play was all it got. At least it has a familiar KDE desktop (One time Red Hat user)

84660 2002-10-03 12:16:00 Yes, I've had a good play around with it now and I'm very impressed :) I already had Red Hat Linux 6.2 installed and it impresses me how much prettier KDE has become. It's great that Knoppix can be started completely from CD, it could be a useful tool in troubleshooting systems that can't start up Windows. It's a very nice environment to work in, much better than a DOS prompt ;) I've wondered about MSN for Linux also. I found a program that connects to AOL here (www.redhat.com). I suppose Wine might be able to install and run MSN, but I'm not sure. BTW, anything you install from the CD will disappear when you reboot I'm afraid :( Rod J (451)
84661 2002-10-04 02:45:00 I did a bit of research into this a while ago.

Aparantly both gaim (gaim.sourceforge.net/) and everybuddy (http:) can talk to MSN as well as the other networks.

According to the package list GAIM is included with knoppix, but it may have been removed on the PC World version.
