2002-10-01 04:03:00 | mmmm.... I connect to three networks, On with a domain, one with worgroup static IP and one with worgroup assigned IP. Can be a real pain, but if you need to do it, it only takes about 2 minutes for me. It wouldn't be ideal for you i guess though

2002-10-01 04:47:00 | ICS relies on being the only ICS in town. It won't work with two running. It starts up DHCP, it knows it is the gateway, ... It might be nice if it could work the way you want, but it would be a pig to implement. Not even Microsoft would release it that way ... their stuff has to work at least some of the time. I suspect that any proxy programme might have trouble too ... how are the two to know who is the gateway this time? Get a 486 and put eSmith Linux on it ... or any of the other firewall +proxy server systems.

2002-10-01 05:32:00 | drat I don't have a spare computer lying about to turn into a firewall. Though I'd like one. My stepdad and little sister aren't really up to the ability of switching network connections and the like.

2002-10-01 05:47:00 | 486s are cheap ... a DX2-66 or DX4-100 would eat it. (How did I manage to double post?)

2002-10-01 06:41:00 | > . . . how are the two > to know who is the gateway this time? By having "profiles" You click th icon for the profile you want and it tells your machine whether it is the gateway or not - then you just have to do the same on the other machine . I don't suppose you could do it with a batch file - i . e . one to set the settings one way, and one to switch them back?? Would take a minute to run I guess . G P

2002-10-01 07:08:00 | But I've seen strong recommendations to install ICS on only one computer in a network ... | Graham L (2) | |
2002-10-01 09:41:00 | I'll just continue the nag for broadband :D The other idea is that all the phone lines enter our "attic" at some stage which is just accross the hall from me. I'll just wire a switch in to easily disconnect my sister for when I need the internet. :)
