| 84691 | 2002-10-01 06:10:00 | Mike, Im inclined to think youre right, since Ive also seen (and used) the ODBC thinggy in Control Panel. If it was connected to Office, why would it be there if I wasnt running Office on the computeror, for that matter, after uninstalling Office? So, the two pieces of advice Ive received so far today (outside of this forum, which frankly seems more useful than either!), are as follows: 1. ODBC is connected to Office. Therefore, buy a higher version of Office (XP for preference) and install that, then re-install the mdac components. 2. Santas little helper #2 didnt answer the question about what ODBC was connected to. However, he did say that I should reinstall Win. Problem: I dont have the CD (yes, its legal but I dont have access to it right now). Ive got the whole Win98SE CD dumped on my HD under Win/Options but how do I reinstall it from *within* Windows itself? Santas helper was busy, and didnt explain that bit very well! Also, can I reinstall Windows without losing all my software? Some of its downloaded, and will be a heap of work to reinstall, and Im travelling soon and will need it all! :-( So Im happy to accept votes for either of the above options, or any additional suggestions along the way!! Thanks, Jandy |

| 84692 | 2002-10-01 06:25:00 | The setup programme knows that it is doing a reinstall. It will keep your settings... though this could be a problem, since your current settings aren't completely correct.;-) Experts ... what's the system repair thingy? To do the reinstall, boot to DOS (F8 to get to the menu), cd \w98se setup(of course, use whatever directory name your .CAB files are kept if it's not "w98se"). |
