85188 2002-10-02 03:08:00 its really hard to say. could be you have got power saving or a screen saver to kick in when idle.

are the 2 pc's networked?

85189 2002-10-02 03:17:00 I don't have any type of power saving, and i've disabled the screen saver (which was set to 5min anyway - it freezes after about 1min) and my 2 PC's are networked fergie (424)
85190 2002-10-02 03:46:00 disconnect it from the network and see if the problem still occurs. tweak'e (174)
85191 2002-10-02 04:06:00 Ok, i disconnected it from my network, and left the mouse for 5 mins - still worked, (i rebooted 3 times and tryed this - and everything OK)
so what do you think then?
Cheers

85192 2002-10-02 04:11:00 if unpluging the network fixes the prob then i would say there is something wrong with the network settings. one of the networking gurus might be able to help with that.

did they have all the windows patches done? there was one about mapped drives.

85193 2002-10-02 05:03:00 This could be caused by an IRQ, DMA, or I/O address regions conflict between the mouse and the network card this conflict can end up freezing the mouse whenever the network [card] is activated. Check the device manager for conflicts, generally a PS2 style mouse uses IRQ12 and network cards use IRQ10

85194 2002-10-02 06:23:00 I checked the mouse and network card in Device Manager, and none of them had any conflicts...... fergie (424)
85195 2002-10-02 06:27:00 Ok, take Tweake advice and make sure that ALL the Win98 patches have been applied. Also someone re networking may look in on PressF1 and be able to help.
