2002-10-01 10:52:00 | Today I got the good old "help out the Nigerians for $30,000,000" email. It's the first time I ever got it. The strange thing is, I got it twice today, in two completely separate email accounts. One of those emails is my regular every day email address (a .co.nz address), which I don't use online, but just use for emailing people. It doesn't surprise me much that I got it in this account, as I do get the occasional spam to this account (due to my recklessness before I realised much about spam, a couple of years back). The really weird thing is the other email account I got it in. It's an account that isn't even set up with my name - instead its some very obscure old ancient type name, and the domain is through one of the europeans Yahoo's (so it's not a .com address), which I have not received an email in for months, and NEVER have received any spam in. The name attached to the email account when I use it to send an email (which is maybe once or twice a year) is John Smith, so it couldn't even be linked to me. Yet I got this exact same email to that and my regular account today - probably at the same time even (I didn't note what time it was sent before I used Mailwasher to bounce them both). Any ideas why I would have got them both on the same day? Or is it just a huge coincidence? Mike.

2002-10-01 11:30:00 | It is probably a concidence. The only other way that I could think of would be spyware??? Have you scanned with Ad-Aware recently??? The spyware may have got your two account address and sent them off to spammers or some company who then sold them to spammers. At least you get spam not an inbox full of love letters from secret admirers. I get lots of love letters from girls cos' I have been on TV lots. The thing that gets me about them is that they don't give up (much like spammers) even though you have told them that you aren't interested!!! I get about 1 a day but they get really annoying. I am sick of replying saying that I aren't interested and I probably never will be cos' I don't like shy girls. Anyway I shouldn't really bother you with my problems. Once again I don't know why you got the same message in both mailboxes on the same day but all I can say is that it might be spyware but it is most likely concidence. Brendonny:D

2002-10-01 11:35:00 | Nope not spyware, I'm sure of that :) It should only be able to find that yahoo address from Mailwasher anyway, cause that's the only reference to it I have on my system. Very strange if you ask me! Good luck with your girls :D Mike.

2002-10-01 11:44:00 | Could it be in a cookie on your system?? On the girl matter would you like it if your mailbox gets lots of letters from girls saying I know who you are baby!!! and I've seen you in town, at school and on TV!!!! I don't like that and I'm already taken!!! Brendonny

2002-10-01 11:50:00 | Shouldn't be a cookie in my system, cause as I said, it's only used by Mailwasher (which shouldn't be creating cookies). If I were getting all these emails, I'd just bounce them. I'm quite happily taken and married, and I'm sure if Mrs Mike got hold of one of them.......................... :D Mike.

2002-10-01 12:16:00 | Thing is, I have had this email address for a couple of years, and it just does not get emails in it... especially not spam. then it just happens that on the same day I get the same email in two completely seperate email accounts... based in two completely different countries (the yahoo one isn't even an english speaking country). | 85076 | 2002-10-01 19:46:00 | Thats one thing I have noticed too. Suddenly my various email is inundated with spam including the address I use only for friends and family and which is only 2 months old. I haven't been to any unscrupulous sites and I control my cookies etc very carefully. Adaware is run at regular times also. Preview pane is off and read receipts are banned so I am unsure where they are getting this info from. I have had 4 nigerian letters and I'm starting to think of starting a collection. I did forward the nigerian Shell oil company letter to Shell Oil inquiring about the use of their company name but otherwise all have been deleted immediately. | dipstick01 (445) | |
