85320 2002-10-02 06:39:00 I have just installed win '98 on a freinds computer, something i've done (too) many times before. Usually i just copy the '98 disk to the 2nd partition of the HDD and install from there using dod command to stert the installation. This installation was being pratty, and my computer wouldn't recognise the new guest HDD, so the only way i could do it was to install windows from the CD, use windows to copy the CD to D:\98 ( the 2nd partition) and then reinstalled win "98 from there. Like a true moron i used windows to initiate the installation.
The only problem is that it still thinks that the install came from the CD, not D:\98. Normally when i install from the HDD, it knows that all the goodys it needs from the install disk should be found on the HDD.
Is there a quick fix to let it know that the most likely place to find stuff is
D:\98\win98 (the copy of the cd) and not
E:\win98 (cd drive)

85321 2002-10-02 06:47:00 Chris,

Edit the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Setup
item value SourcePath to point to where you want the source pointer to be.

85322 2002-10-02 06:53:00 look in the registry HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Set up\SourcePath

usual registry precations required. easy way to do this is use x-setup.

85323 2002-10-02 06:54:00 Wow, there's a man who know where it is in the Registry. I've used the Search in regedit to look for "D:\" or whatever ... ;-) Graham L (2)
