2002-10-03 01:34:00 | The major difference between dynamic and basic disk is - to quote MS -"With dynamic storage, you can perform disk and volume management without the need to restart Windows." Which - in my experience and opinion - is an attempt by MS to address the market position of PowerQuest's PartitionMagic and VolumeManager (the successor to ServerMagic) both of which are generally acknowledged as being the standards for on the fly disk management.

2002-10-03 02:38:00 | My Disk Type is Basic, so I still don't know what the problem is or how to fix it! | dariog (2111) | |
2002-10-03 02:41:00 | Are you using PartitionMagic version 8.x? Babe.

2002-10-03 02:52:00 | backup critical data and run Partition Magic and use the "Check for Errors" under Operations. If no errors are found or able to be repaired, backup critical data, delete the partition, create one for XP, install XP and then Linux. It appears that an unusual problem exists with either the file index of NTFS or the configuration of the hard drive.

2002-10-04 11:15:00 | Im using 7.0 I payed for this one and I don't really want to pay for the upgrade to 8.0 ($69.95 US). When I use the "Check For Errors" option it just says "Partition Contains files, use operating system check utility". I'd rather not reinstall Win XP.

2002-10-04 11:27:00 | The error info at the link you gave really suggests that there is no solution (apart from Version 8, which states "supports XP") That same link gives the options of advising PowerQuest support. Did they respond?

2005-08-05 19:05:00 | I have the same error and I am working on PM 8.02 (build 1291). I also get: When I use the "Check For Errors" option it just says "Partition Contains files, use operating system check utility". I hope that there is a solution.

2005-08-05 20:50:00 | of course PM will resise ntfs lol.........ah try slaving the drive to work on it or another way is to use the funciton within PM to make 'boot diskettes' as they call them that'll allow you to run PM from floppy at boot so therefore there wont be any 'files in use'......... | drcspy (146) | |
