85586 2002-10-02 23:45:00 Hi Team

I run a peer to peer network with 3 Win2K boxes and one Win98.

I have been in the habit of downloading programs such as ZoneAlarm and other small applications to one computer (W98), unzipping if required to a separate directory then installing over the network by accessing the file from the proposed recipient computer and clicking setup etc. This is pull rather than push technology, and I can't initiate a remote install from the host computer, at least I don't think I can. ?:|

So far this method has worked fine and the installation proceeds as if the installation files were resident on the recipient computer, albeit a little slowly for bigger installs.

I am about to network my Win95 Toshiba Libretto sub-notebook (bought the right sort of PC card network adapter this time) and since this computer does not have a CD rom I have never installed anything that didn't fit on a floppy.

I now want to install some programs that are on CD and since I can't Ghost the HD on this unit (for lack of HDD space) I don't want to munge the OS by doing something stupid. One day I'll take the time to learn how to ghost over a network but I only have Ghost 2001 and although
I know this version will clone over a network, recording an image sounds a bit more complex and I don't think I will necessarily be able to do that without one of the professional versions. I will also need DOS drivers for the PC card too I guess. Correct me if I'm wrong. :8}

Anyway, the big question is: Can I run an install program for, say, Norton AV from the CD drive on old faithful (W98) using the network connection and load the program onto the Toshiba notebook?

From my previous successful network installs this would seem entirely feasible but opinions and advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Check the documentation for Ghost using parallel port connections

Thus encouraged, I shall go forth and install!
