85876 2002-10-03 23:37:00 I have a friend living in Italy who has a Dell Computer. When he starts the computer he gets this message "Warning: Dell's Disk Monitoring System has detected that Drive0 on the primary EIDE controller is operating outisde of normal specifications. It is advisable to immediatley back up your data and replace your hard-disk drive by calling your support desk or Dell Computer Corporation.
Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup utility." It sounds serious to me, and assume it isn't a virus causing the message. Any ideas? Should he act quickly and seek help before the hard disk crashes?
Many thanks.

85877 2002-10-03 23:45:00 That is an ominous sign . Dell advise as below:

Power On Self Test (POST) has queried the Hard Drive for status .

The Hard Drive has detected possible error conditions .

This means it has an unreliable or defective Hard Drive .

I would advise to backup all data and get it replaced .
