85657 2002-10-03 03:10:00 I was trying to record the Reith Lecture series online. MyPC runs W98 and WXP(home), with dialup modem and Creative Soundblaster PCI/ Realplayer 8. I cannot seem to acquire the input, although the Windows output is happy to adjust the wav volume.
How do I do it?

Many thanks.

85658 2002-10-03 03:28:00 Not sure if there is a way to record streamed data easily, however I recall I did it once by looping line in to line out on the soundcard, and recorded it in real time. Worked until a delay occurred on the internet (was on dial up then) which caused a long silent portion(s) godfather (25)
85659 2002-10-03 03:43:00 This is what you do, it really quite easy when you know how, I do it all the time :)
Open the Volume Control icon in the system tray, click on Options-Properties, check the Recording 'radio' button, scroll down in the window and tick the Mixed Output box, then click OK.
The Recording Controls window will then open, tick the Mixed Output volume control 'Select' box, and keep this window open so that you can adjust the recording volume control.

All you need then is a program to record in the format you want, Music Match is one free program that should do it.
I use Real Encoder 5.1 and record in .rm format most of the time.

Sometimes leave the comp running all night to record 'old time' 1920s/30s stuff off Live365.

85660 2002-10-03 03:44:00 Sorry, should have said my OS is Win98SE. No idea about XP. Terry Porritt (14)
85661 2002-10-03 10:22:00 Thank you - audio works a treat. Windows Movie maker does not seem to recognise a video input however! Any ideas? drmd (2130)
85662 2002-10-03 11:36:00 It sounds as though you are using Windows XP (of which I know nothing).
I found this MS site thats about getting started with Movie Maker
link (www.microsoft.com)

Real Player audo/video is in real media .rm format, most probably this is not recognised by Movie Maker, so Im intrigued as to how you are recording audio. Page 2 of the link above lists the file formats supported by Movie Maker, it doesnt mention .rm.

The reason I use Real Encoder for audio recording is that there is a wider choice of recording bit rates than most other audio recording programs, and the lower quality of 1920's/30s music doesnt justify high bit rates.

I've only recorded streaming audio not video, I expect there is a multimedia guru somewhere out there though who will give expert advice.

85663 2002-10-03 19:30:00 I think Im losing my marbles, if I'd searched a bit more I'd have seen that Movie Maker is available for Win9x platforms as well as XP.

Also Real Player decodes the audio so that it can be played, or re-encoded into another format by a recording program eg MovieMaker , MusicMatch, or what have you. It's the video component Im not sure about, maybe you do need to use a Real encoder to record both audio and video that is initially coming over in Real Media format before decoding?
