85803 2002-10-03 19:28:00 Could those in the know put up thoughts on some good net download software that will enable downloads to be resumed, change download site, etc? I used to use GoZilla a couple of years ago (don't have it any more) and haven't had the need for it recently and am wondering what is available now.

Thanks

85804 2002-10-03 20:48:00 I use DAP (Download Accellerator Plus), which can be downloaded from www.speedbit.com It's small and unobtrusive, but can resume, allow you to add mirror sites for downloads, searches for mirrors automatically etc. etc.

It is ad supported (for the free version) but does not contain any spyware (that I know of anyway). Many download managers I've heard do have spyware, so be careful.

85805 2002-10-03 20:53:00 There are several around, the one I use which seems ok and has no spyware etc is FreshDownload from:
http://www.freshdevices.com/

There is other free software at that site too.

85806 2002-10-03 20:59:00 many thanks guys.

I seem to remember GoZilla had/has spyware in it that caused a small ruckus a few years ago.

Any morning would be a nice morning to be one the Katana :) and if the weather in Auckland is anything like it is in Tauranga, there'll definitely be racing today :D

85809 2002-10-04 02:18:00 i use fresh too, it's quite good.
Doesn't search for mirrors though, i think. I was thinking of changing to something that does, since I've been downloading lots lately...
I'll let you know if I find another good one...

85810 2002-10-04 02:28:00 flashget (http://www.amazesoft.com/) No1 ! ! ! :D tweak'e (174)
85811 2002-10-04 02:42:00 NoooOOOoo!!! Getright (http://www.getright.com) forever!! :D Lohsing (219)
85812 2002-10-04 02:49:00 I've tried Flashget (Previously FlashCar), aqnd that was kewl, but no good for MP3 downloads... Broke them up and stuff. Interface could have been easier.
GetRight was rather bulky when I last tried it. It also didnt acheive the speeds I knew that others could.
Go!Zilla was good, spyware though. But for music it was kewl, and also it let me set how much of my bandwidth I wanted to use, and it stuck to it well!
DAP is nice, easy, fast, and although it splits up the file, meaning music cant be played while downloading, It acheives the fastest speed IMHO, and also works even better if you have Cable!
BTW. I use WinMX, so none of the music stuff really matters...

Cheers
