2002-10-03 01:26:00 | Hey, Okay im having real problems with heat in my system at the moment, my CPU runs at about 45 degrees, (XP 1600+ with volcano 7+ heatsink). Is there any ways i can cool it down. Thermal Gel?.... Do the more processes the system have make the cpu warmer? How do you cun the number of processes the CPU does, IE less programs in the task bar?

2002-10-03 01:31:00 | The harder the CPU works the warmer it gets. I still cant see your problem, sorry. AMD rate the chip to max 90 degrees celcius...45 sounds fine

2002-10-03 01:43:00 | Do more programs running i nthe taskbar make the CPU run harder/warmer? Does thermal gel help at all? So 50 odd degrees isstill pretty safe...as said, have lots of fans to try and keep it cool, but want to disengage fans as too noisy. What is the max comfortable temp for the cpu? | sjbryce (2129) | |
2002-10-03 04:49:00 | 45 degrees is pretty cool, nothing to get concerned about at all. AMD say that your cpu is OK up to 95 degrees celsius. My XP 2000+ cpu runs at around 42-45 in idle and increases to the low 50s during intensive gaming sessions. | crozier (2004) | |
2002-10-03 06:24:00 | ok. how are you mesureing the temp? with motherboard based sensor or the ondie cpu sensor? is that temp at idle or at load? whats the case temp? a small drop in case temp can make a big difference to cpu temp. whats the room temp? you won't be able to get the cpu any cooler than the room temp ;-) what OS? are you running a cooler program?

2002-10-10 08:45:00 | Temp measure is by motherboard based temp. The temps, bout 43ish rest 47 odd load. Thing is if i have case fans going it hell drops the temp, just hey are hell noisy, trying to make system as quite as possible, want it real quite on idel so i can d/l at night without thinking i gota helecoper hovering over me. Does gel help, or do i have enough gel from the heatsink. Room temp, HEHE welcome to dunedin in a student flat, i use my cpu as a heater. Running Win XP pro, whats this cooler program u speak of.....

2002-10-10 09:08:00 | whats the case temps? >if i have case fans going it hell drops the temp well to keep it cool without useing case fans is tricky . all i can suggest is get a BIG case and use big slow speed fans . you could try temp senseing fans which get faster when it gets hotter . put a duct on the cpu fan to suck air from the front of the case . try a cooling prog (rain, vcool etc) . at night your pc won't be running hard out so you could get away with switching a fan off . eg have front case and rear case fans and at night turn the front one off . i used to hace it set up like that myself . also look where the pc is sitting . make some soft rubber pads for it to sit on . (stops vibrations)

2002-10-10 09:17:00 | if he's not over clocking it, he shouldn't need more than a standard cpu fan should he? I've gotta athlon 1700+ and all I have is a cpu fan. Current temp is 43, if I stick the side back on it'll go up to about 46 maybe... nor do I use a cooling program. No need for any extra cooling really... nor do I use a cooling program. Or is there and I'm missing something?

2002-10-10 09:40:00 | >he shouldn't need more than a standard cpu fan should he CPU fan no.......CASE FAN yes :) with durons or other lesser cpu's no extra case fan is nessacary. cpu temp is part of it. CASE temp is also important.

2002-10-10 09:45:00 | wait a minute... so I've got only a fan bolted on the cpu heatsink. Is that bad? Nothings blown up yet....
