86315 2002-10-05 08:46:00 Hi
Computer: 486, 20MB Ram, running Windows 95
Modem: 33.6k US Robotics Sportster Winmodem - PC (ISA)

I recently installed a 33.6k modem in my grandmothers computer (mainly because she asked and I was stupid enough to say yes) anyway, I have the modem installed and Windows detects it ok, and requests drivers for it, reset, and the System Properties lists the modem as ok (no errors)

However, when it comes to dialing, windows comes up and says could not detect modem, make sure it is turned on, etc.

Also when I go into the Diagnostics tab in the Modem Control Panel (modem.cpl) select the modem and click more info the modem clicks (you can hear it) and then Windows says it could not communicate with the modem

Thanks

86316 2002-10-05 09:28:00 I recently had a similar problem which I resolved by downloading a new driver from the modems website onto floppy. I then went into device manager and right click on modems then drivers- update drivers then pointed to my floppy drive. I even got a message to say that the existing driver was the better driver but elected to use the new downloaded driver. This worked a treat so have a go John Boy (1365)
86317 2002-10-06 00:14:00 Did you install the Dial-Up Adapter ?
Did you install the TCP/IP protocol in Network?

Is the modem connected correctly to the phonejack? Sometimes there is a choice between LINE and PHONE on the back of the modem.

(It always pays to be nice to grandmothers. Where would you be without them?)

Good luck, Antonia.

86318 2002-10-06 03:13:00 I had same problem b4. I tried to dial it from make a new connection in the control panel after I successfully create the connection setting. but the window kept telling me "could not detect modem, make sure it is turned on, etc"
I'm sure IT'S ON, EVERYTHING, SETTING, PHONE LINE.

When I make a shortcut to the desktop, everything is fine !!! sound strange? it is ! Try it then.

Cheers
