86303	2002-10-05 07:15:00	My first problem is: Some of the menues, drop down lists, or whatever you call them, are so long, they cant fit on the screen. I cant seem to scroll down, and pressing the arrow keys just moves the selection down, but since its right off the screen i dont have a clue what it is. Second problem. I am trying to extract images out of a PDF file, using Acrobat 5.5. The export images doesnt work properly, so Adobe said to go file > save as > whatever.eps I have a plugin in Gimp to read PostScripts, but I cant open the *. eps from Acrobat. Even if I save te files as *.ps in Acrobat, it still doesnt work. But dont worry too much about this, because Microsoft suggested InfranView 32 to open *.ps and that didnt work either. Must be an Acrobat problem, but i just thought i would mention it, just in case. Anyway Gimp Rocks so far! Oh, and I cant seem to make the background transparent, or any part of an image transparent.	mejobloggs (264)
86304	2002-10-05 10:30:00	I think from memory I download loaded a complete set of install file before I got to the right one. anyway the one I got to work was Gimp 1.2.3, (gimp-1.2.3-20020310.zip about 9.16 Meg) downloaded from http://www.gimp.org/ and have you posted a question on the gimp group?, if not I have just done it for you. I cant seem to scroll down, and pressing the > arrow keys just moves the selection down, but since its right off the screen > i dont have a clue what it is. ah, yes, a commonly mentioned problem. this comes up most often in reference to the "save_as" dialogue. in that context, we usually point out: you don't actually need to select the fFile fFormat you wish to use. you can just type in the whole name, like "MyPicture.JPG" and it will save correctly. the problem also gets mentioned in the context of scripts and plugin. there are a couple options here. one is to physically remove some of the scripts or plugins fFrom the directory in which they reside, thus making it so the list in which they appear is shorter, allowing you to see the bottom of the list. another option, in the case of scripts, is to actually edit the texts of the scripts themselves to make a new script listing. this however requires a little knowledge of how the scripts are written. i encourage the learning, but it obviously isn't always an option. (i'll give you a hint, the menu location appears towards the end of a script, and is worded something like "<image > /script-fu/alchemy/XXXXXXX". just change this to something like "<image > /script-fu/alchemy-PAGE-TWO/XXXXXXX") lastly is to 'detach' the menu listing (by clicking on the dashed line at the top of the menu) and move the new window to somewhere so you can indeed see the whole thing. quite possibly the easiest choice, and doesn't limit your possibilities. -_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ > Second problem. > > I am trying to extract images out of a PDF file, using Acrobat 5.5. Or if you wanted to, you could do "Edit" "Clear" to erase, as well. but you need to add an alpha channel. actually -- if you know how to use layers -- you can add a new layer to your image. any additional layers added to an image will automatically have an alpha channel. note, to keep the alpha channel, you will need to save as either a GIF, PNG, or XCF. 86311	2002-10-06 01:32:00	Jonathon: The next step is to find a book . There is one very good one called "Grokking the GIMP" . See if your Public Library has it . There might be an on-line manual . . . have a browse on the home site . The version numbers might vary between the Windows and Linux releases . . .
