Well if yet another handout of Tax Money isn’t bad enough, its passing through an extended sitting of parliament, with no opposition, stinks to high heaven.

You are not alone, but why would the handout need to be passed through an extended sitting of parliament and why was there no opposition?

I’m afraid the whole thing has “Devious” written all over it.

1291455 2012-07-30 02:32:00 Done at an extended sitting so that there were fewer MPs, particularly opposition MPs in the house.

The US Senate works the same way... let people fill up their appointment schedules, then dump a late night of policy decisions at the last minute so that few of them can respond to it... democracy at its very worst... by stealth.

On the other hand, maybe the lack of opposition was because MPs acknowledge there's a debt to be paid to Iwi in compensation for Crown thefts that go back the best part of a century.

It might sound like a lot of money, but per capita it might be only the equivalent of the areas weekly welfare spend anyway, so small change in the entire scheme of things.
