1292258 2012-08-02 05:24:00 None of the above options apply to me: as a computer scientist student I'm almost certain I'll be getting a free copy (like Windows 7, Vista and XP).

Have you read the terms of MSDN-AA?

Well, if you don't care for it, it isn't really different from downloading a pirated copy. :)

1292259 2012-08-02 06:09:00 I haven't tried it, don't need it. Will ditch Windows soon I think. KarameaDave (15222)
1292260 2012-08-02 06:25:00 i see no point for Windows 8 GameJunkie (72)
1292261 2012-08-02 06:26:00 No I won't be buying directly but indirectly my TechNet sub will allow me to download it, along with all the other Microsoft Software :D CYaBro (73)
1292262 2012-08-02 06:27:00 Haven't tried it and won't be buying it. Windows 7 does everything for me. QW. (15883)
1292263 2012-08-02 06:31:00 Been using Windows 8 on one of the computers in the lounge, its a kind of semi temporary setup for games. (Long story lol) But once removing all the apps that I wont use, adding in links to programs or locations its not to bad.

Have W8 on the Media center PC as XP spat the dummy big time :yuck:

And to be honest on the media center, metro now I have removed all the Apps that I dont need, and added in ones that are used all the time For media playing its actually a LOT better than Xp & W7. Had to add a couple of programs since W8 was reported as not supporting DVD playback ( never tried it but I wanted the programs anyway), and I added in the Media Centrer as well - plays really nice, and is a lot easier to see across the lounge than a Normal desktop.

BUT as work actual working day to day -- committee still out on that one, I'll wait till I can download it in two weeks.

1292264 2012-08-02 06:55:00 Windows 7 has DX 11.
:)

What I meant was that both Vista and Windows 7 have DirectX 10+ (eg: they are DX10 capable and higher) - I just wasn't bothered writing that all out at the time.

1292266 2012-08-02 07:56:00 I'm in the same boat as CyaBro - I won't go out and buy it, but it will be available to me anyway. No, I won't install it. Quite happy with Win7. Might need to upgrade the laptop next year though, so I will have a play then and if I don't like it, I will "upgrade" to Win7 using the Technet sub... johcar (6283)
1292267 2012-08-02 08:01:00 Why bother, I won't be upgrading anything in the foreseeable future.
