1292092 2012-08-02 09:44:00 The new system means the heavily loaded trucks like logging etc will pay heaps less whil the trucks that carry bulky light loads like insulation etc will pay heaps more.

The heavily loaded trucks are the ones that cause the wear & tear.

Good, lets get the buggers, drive em off the road and out of business, The flow on effect will cripple the economy, and whats left can be gifted to the slightly darker Kiwis.

Then lets get those farmers and their god forsaken cows.

Somebody beat you to it. Took to 18 or so calves with a hammer, and then spilt 20,000L of milk in to the bargain :horrified

1292094 2012-08-02 20:27:00 Last RUC - $321.33
Now - $244.80

Bit of an increase. What annoys me more is the gigantic portion of the rego that is ACC.
Diesel or petrol.

My rego - $147 for 6 months, actual fee $21.

1292095 2012-08-02 20:44:00 The old RUC rules encouraged more axles to reduce per axle loadings and damage to the roads. The new rules encourage the opposite, to keep the gvm down. People can't just go and change their trucks overnight, so the lightly loaded ones with lots of axles get smashed financially as they have to pay as if fully loaded. wotz (335)
1292096 2012-08-03 08:40:00 I never understood why they don't just add it to the diesel price like they do with petrol, the whole system seems unweildy to me.
Sure there are a lot of diesel vehicles that are not road users but surely that can be sorted without the whole RUC fiasco.

If your not using the road your exempt from paying RUCs. One the companies I work with has a digital hub on the windscreen linked to GPS and when you travel 250m away from the recognised roads it automatically adjusts the RUCs giving a credit. Great system the drawback is obvious though fro the driver but not the fleet owner.

The paperwork though to claim back RUCs is a headache unless you have an electronic tag. We pretty much gave up and just claimed it back through the IRD.

Of course we could always do what they do in Europe and have Red Diesel for farm vehicles but once again we have many vehicles that drive on and off public roads.

1292097 2012-08-03 09:24:00 Sorry but what is GVM. I'm having trouble these days with all the acronyms.
Its the max weight the vehicle can be loaded to. If the CIVU weigh you and its over they fine you moonbeams.
So if a truck has a GVM of 10 tonnes but you only carry say insulation or feathers you might have only needed a 7 ton sticker.
But the new plan is you now get a 10 tonne sticker and get ripped off. And just to kick you in the nuts they increased the price.

1292098 2012-08-03 09:33:00 I cant see the problem with the new system? My cars unladen weight is 990kg but gross weight is 1580kg! either way it has had a 2 tonne sticker. What I have never worked out is if the unladen weight is without a full tank of Diesel Full which weighs 66kgs or a average weight driver :)

I checked our vehicle fleet at work and according to the old rules we have been ripping ourselves off by paying RUCS to the max gross weight for several years.

1292099 2012-08-03 09:54:00 The new system is a rort.

Plenty of trucks never carry their maximum permitted weight.

Thanks for that.

1292101 2012-08-03 13:25:00 The sooner all diesels are off the road with their soot, stench and noise the better.
Left-handed people are next. ;)
