1291217 2012-07-29 01:54:00 I hadn't realised that there are so many experts on consitutional law on this forum.
I openly admit I don't know how valid the author's opinions are but obviously most of you agree with her. But maybe thats because she is saying what you believe rather than what you know.

1291218 2012-07-29 02:03:00 It is very easy if you don't like it you are welcome to do the disappearing act.:groan:

And I suggest you could do the same with your gripes about this country and its supposed unbalanced treatment of its citizens.

Actually she wasn't really discussing constitutional law, but was expanding on her theme that she calls "neotribal capitalism".

"Rata discovered the emergence of what she calls "neotribal capitalism". In other words, once Maori tribes were given back assets, they behaved just like white New Zealanders. The aggressive and adventurous grabbed the spoils, the rest remained as poor as ever. "

1291222 2012-07-29 02:33:00 "It is not my imagination that there has been an increase in threads that bleat on about Maori in general or the Treaty of Waitangi. There is a small group of members who use this forum as their personal soapbox for this particular topic. While I am all for open and broad discussions, there is a difference between debate and constant regurgitation. For example, in the last 3 months B.M. has created 17 threads - 10 of these have been about Maori or the Treaty of Waitangi and 5 of those in just this month.

It has been pointed out that this gives the forum a 'taint', which is a bit sad. Open and varied discussion yes, single topic droning on and on, no. Give it a break please."

Well said Jen

You are right, I notice that more affluent iwi, maori trusts, etc are from those (my maori ex brother in law I know is getting over 5, 000 per year from some Tuwharetoa and Waikato trust from land shares handed down) are from NZ heartland or resource rich area's, i.e. forestry, farming, lakes, etc. Does put them (trustees/shareholders) in a much better space, with inroads in the political system, investment systems, and education (grants, tertiary partnerships).

Rata's piece is balanced and insightful, but as an academic, she seems to be referring lawyers, rather than some of her academic maori research professor contemporaries, e.g. Ann Salmond, Margaret Mutu, Pat Hohepa, and such. Maybe their input may have meaning in the context of current day iwi and politics, rather than solely her own. Then maybe not.

1291224 2012-07-29 03:00:00 Whilst I agree entirely with Ms Rata it has also struck me that a lot Maori’s see this Water Claim as Hog Wash. I was drinking with two such Maoris on Friday night.

As johcar alluded to it is reasonable to assume that Ms Rata carries Maori blood and it crossed my mind that most of the Maori Activists carry non-Maori blood.

Here’s a short list of names off the top of my head, feel free to add to them. To some of you who miss the point, let me explain that their Surname’s is a dead give away that somewhere on their Paternal side there is Non-Maori blood.

Pseudo- Maori.

Stephen Gerard O'Regan – Ngai Tahu claims

Joe Hawke – Bastion Point

Eva Rickard – Land including Raglan Golf Course.

Mike Smith – One Tree Hill

Annette Sykes – Kill a White Man …………..

Hone Hatfield – better known as HoneHarawira – of (White Mother F…..s have been raping our lands and ripping us off for centuries) fame.

Ken Mair – Moutoa Gardens Occupation Wanganui.

Douglas Graham – Waitangi Tribunal and well known crook.

John Delamere - Ex Politician with a chequered background.

Willie Jackson - Broadcaster & Anti Pakeha extremist

Pita Sharples – Maori Academic and Politician.

So there are just a few of the cross-breed activists and that would only be a drop in the bucket as to the numbers on the Gravy Train with their noses in the trough.

What you mean is The Truth Hurts and you and you don't want the matter discussed.

And as I've already pointed out, what I've provided links to was reported by Fairfax Media, the sponsors of this site.
