1291969 2012-08-01 05:25:00 Well a rates decrease bill is better than a rates increase bill. The commie Waitaik council we used to have had a gerrymandering rating system that kept the rates down on expensive properties and socked the poor people more.
Water isnt too much we have a 5000 litre rain water tank, well and creek/drain which I occasionally steal water from in the summer.

1291971 2012-08-01 06:00:00 21% is a bit nuts.

but keep in mind that you can have a say on the Council plan each year.
this lets you say that you don't want the expensive new car park etc.

also every few years you get to vote them out....

as with most political things, if you don't vote, then don't gripe.

1291972 2012-08-01 06:32:00 Oh dear oh dear oh dear

Got our rates bill today and it has gobe DOWN!!!! Yes down by $200 oer year! Then again I have heard that the regional council rates are probably going to take a chunk of that. Makes stuff all differance though because of it those who have an accomodation supplement are also going to be worse off with a drop or rise in rates. Also our property values have been devalued by $20,000 and thats if your lucky to sell for anything close to the GV. So no better off just not having to pay more rent on land already owned to a local council.

1291973 2012-08-01 07:54:00 My rates have increased by 7.8% Was $415 per quarter, now $478, + regional rates of around $230 per year, takes them up to $2139 all up. Sucks bad when on fixed low moolah!
Shall I pay the rates and not eat, or shall I pay the power bill and not eat. Not much choice eh?

Do you qualify for the rates rebate? You should. And pay them on auto payment, monthly or fortnightly, better than the large bill quarterly.

Waste water.
Waitakere gets waste water charges taken off Auckland rates and charged by Watercare now.
$2.28 per kl, 78.5% of water used is how they calculate it.

PLus $190 per year fixed charge.

Yes, I do get a rates rebate, thank goodness. I just usually put the money aside each week, but might inquire about monthly payments I think.
