1315755 2012-12-01 04:40:00 Hi,
I am looking at buying a new monitor as a screen extension for a Macbook Pro. I have looked around and have decided that the 'LG IPS237L' looks like quite a good monitor but I would prefer it if it had a glossy finish. (I have also looked at the AOC E2357FH but it is non IPS) so my questions are...

1) Is there an advantage of a glossy finish, I really like how it looks on my laptop?

2) Can you suggest a better monitor with the following specifications:
a) Around 23"
b) 1080p resolution
c) IPS panel
d) 2 x HDMI ports
e) A headphone jack
f) A glossy finish

I normally say look for a viewsonic, have used a few of these and never had any problems.

www.pricespy.co.nz is a good place to look.

1315760 2012-12-01 22:18:00 Also is it going to be possible to game (modern warfare 2, black ops etc.) on an IPS display. Because 5 ms of input lag seems like noting to me as compared to 2ms on a TS style display Campbellnz (16961)

I would say gaming on an ips monitor is perfectly doable.

1315762 2012-12-01 23:34:00 You can just use Ascent.co.nz go to monitors and hit the "advanced filter". So put in your criteria ... and see what it comes up with and sort them by price. I think the issue is that not many LCDs both cheap and $$$ will have those (speakers or headphone).

I have a IPS, Dell U2410 which was around $1100 RRP which was offered to me under a replacement warranty for a slightly older one. Bro has the $230 odd AOC IPS which has a headphone jack, speakers which he uses for his Xbox 360 and movies. Seems fine. Ie, the latest demo COD Modern Warfare, Gears of War.

1315763 2012-12-01 23:50:00 One thing I will point out with the cheaper AOC IPS panel at least is that they used the cheaper side lighting so if you have a game or movie with a dark scene, it may not be uniformly lit. H'e pointed it out but it hasn't bothered him. It's by design. If you want back lighting, you may need to pay $500-700+. Ie a Apple Cinema screen.

If you care about the response speed, use it for average things like games, movies, typical MS Office stuff. Maybe you should just look at a glossy TN/TS screen. I myself got a IPS screen for photography with my camera club. Where I wanted more color gamut, brightness tones and a wider more consistent viewing angle than simply speed.
