It always amazes me how the USA can afford to run 11 carrier groups.

The wages bill would be horrendous just for one of them.

And I understand that they are going to keep building new carriers to place these ones.

I do support the US in this, and thank them for being strong for democracy. (just a bit late in both world wars)

(OK they are not perfect)

1292224 2012-08-02 04:32:00 With these carriers there will also be nukes. The Aussie base will be a place of attack in the event of a strike. Guess which country lies downwind of the radioactive cloud that could result from all that. Paul.Cov (425)
1292225 2012-08-02 04:44:00 Nuclear powered submarines that fire Tomahawk missiles. I cannot see them being allowed in New Zealand at least. Bobh (5192)
1292226 2012-08-02 05:08:00 When you are that paranoid that someone is out to get you because you have provoked them, inhibited their growth, attacked their friends and neighbours, supported their enemies etc etc, I guess any cost can be justified. I wish the US would pull its head in and stay in its own backyard until it is asked. The US dont need to be in the South Pacific or Australia, there is no fear from attack from Japan or China or who ever, the US are just baiting China. The US could save billions and spend it on its own country and make it a better place to live for its people, instead, it spends more on defence that it makes, it is trillions in debt and going backward fast.
The US would be a better place and more liked by countries around the world if it didnt impose itself on everyone.

My opinion only.

So you are quite happy that China claims most of the South East Asian Sea.
And is building a bign avy.

The areas they claim clearly would belong to Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philipines if you looked on any map.

Who is to know what China's ambitions are. I am sorry but I don't fully trust them but they will probably takes us over through there financial clout anyway. You just need to look at all the dirty tricks they get up to in regards to trade secrets they steal.

Snap! I was just explaining to my son tonight about China's expansionist claims and efforts. Not that I specifically fear China but history shows that powerful nations put their own interests first.
