1290955 2012-07-26 06:56:00 Is there an official post office or do you have privateers running offices that perform those duties?

Is 'New Zealand Post' a federal or private company?

Another question: Is there a correct protocol for addressing a postmaster in a city in new Zealand and do you have individual city-postmasters or a grand postmaster in a larger city somewhere?

1290956 2012-07-26 07:31:00 Cities / suburbs here have post codes

If you know the address over here, type it in here. It'll tell you the postcode (www.nzpost.co.nz)

Just send whatever to whoever, and their address / postcode / city. And it'll get there

1290957 2012-07-26 07:56:00 NZ post is nationally run, there are a few private companies doing post, but they are still tied into the national system somewhere along the lines. Every post office has a postmaster usually called Oy You! gary67 (56)
1290958 2012-07-26 08:05:00 NZ Post is a State owned enterprise, which allows for the "company" to have autonomous control over its facilitation of goods and services, in other words it needs to make a profit annually in order to pay tax to the NZ Government.
Post codes are allocated for different regions in order to make it easier for the posties who deliver mail, to deliver it to the appropriate address.

No, there is no specific protocol to address anyone in the Post Office, as they are run by a semi corporate body. The top guy is a CEO just like other companies. There used to be a Postmaster General before our Govt of the day sold us all down the river in the late nineties.

I hope that goes a small way to help with your enquiry Joe.
