86475 2002-10-06 08:02:00 Tauranga newspapers might also be useful. After all Tauranga is only one hour's drive from Rotorua.

Also, I once found loads of real estate shops on the internet, they may or may not have Rotorua listings for rentals on their books.

The advice given regarding spending a week in a hostel is a good one. If you wanted to you could also spend a week there a month or two prior to moving to try and find something.

86476 2002-10-06 08:22:00 Yeah..i think i am going up to Rotorua at the end of November, so i mite get something sorted then..
have contacted the Daily post, so mite get something from them too..

The real estate places online...i'm gonna surf thru many of them and contact them and ask for more info on rotorua rentals, and if they know of any place that has email contact regarding rentals...
The only disavantage i have on real estates is that they charge their fees on top of the bond etc...so thats kinda irritating..but its to be expected...

I'm gonna go get surfing now :-)

Tauranga..i was considering moving there, as its not that far from Rotorua, and i know their bus service (intercity) does a 7:15am daily service to Rotorua, getting there just b4 8:30am..but that means, extra expenses which i sorta am gonna try and avoid...but if it has to happen then happen its gonna :)

go the warriors...u guys will kick butt

Sorry, that was meant to be:

Also, I once found loads of Tauranga real estate shops on the internet . .

I don't think you will want a one-hour commute each way every day to and from Tauranga so you will be wise to find digs in Rotorua .

You're right about avoiding real estate agencies if possible . They probably don't deal with board vacancies as much as rentals . Another thing that you've probably already thought of: you could put some "Wanted" adverts in the local newspapers yourself nearer to the time .

There are bound to be some single mothers who want to take in a boarder and someone like that would be ideal (if you don't mind children!!) . It's just a matter of finding them!! :D

86481 2002-10-08 23:19:00 Why don't you put an advt in the Wanted To Rent -or- Board Wanted section of the newspaper where you are heading to......

In this day and age, people are always looking to take in a boarder to take the strain off the family budget!

86482 2002-10-08 23:35:00 Yeah I could only if they reply to my email i sent them early last week...
Since i'm deaf i communicate via emails...instead of using the phone...
have emailed them about, the classified ads and when they appear in the paper there, and how i could get copies of them...
And havent heard back from them...Mite have to re-email them...

There may be people out there that have never thought about taking in a boarder, or others that would, but are too scared to take the risk in case "things don't work out . "

If you could be promoted by someone locally who knows you, they could emphasise all of your good points, like good with children, quiet disposition, keen student, don't need much room etc etc . Think of all your good points and mention them . Put them down on paper . Non smoker, non drinker, tidiness, no/few late nights out, no parties, no loud stereos, pay on time, references from others, etc etc . Emphasise what's true (delete what's not of course) and I am sure that it will make you a desirable person to have as a boarder .

For a person who has never had a boarder before, perhaps you could entice them with an option like, "give me a trial period and there will be no hard feelings if you wish to discontinue the arrangement for whatever reason" . I am sure that they would see that you were no trouble and would keep you on . If it was discontinued, at least you would be in Rotorua and would find it easier to find another place from there .

The problem is who could promote you, and how could they forward that advice to some organisation in Rotorua with favourable recommendations because they have met you? Do you play any sports, table tennis, bowls, or any church connections . With your deafness, perhaps the local Salvation Army, being caring people, could assist, meet with you, see your references, decide upon your character and promote you through their contacts in Rotorua . What about the local Citizens Advice Bureau? Think of anyone that knows you (and likes you), that could promote you . Medical organisations? a notice in a Rotorua doctor's office with a recommendation from your doctor in Palmerston North could be promising .

The above may not be practical for you but perhaps it may lead you to another line of thought .

Cheers .
