86638 2002-10-07 00:39:00 Hi
Have just upgraded to a 19" monitor and that fact may be unrelated.

However, it now takes an age for Excel to complete highlighting a range - either with mouse or use of keys.

I don't seem to have a similar problem in MS Word - both apart of the Office 97 system

Can anyone offer as solution as its driving me crazy?

TIA

Ron

86639 2002-10-07 09:11:00 Thats a strange one. Excel can be slow if you have a large workbook with many calculations. If you have a large workbook turn off auto calculations and see if that makes any difference (tools-options-calculations tab & change calculations to manual). You can then select F9 to do calculations.

To me it sounds more like a resource issue although you say Word is fine. What % resources are taken up and is your PC really only slow with Excel? Hard to think monitor is a problem but perhaps the wrong drivers are loaded which is slowing things down.

86640 2002-10-07 09:48:00 How much RAM and what Video Card do you have?
What resolution and colour are you using?

It may just be that there is too much for it to display at one time.

86641 2002-10-07 09:50:00 RON_A, is it the actual highlighting that is slow, or is it the scrolling of the spreadsheet while you are highlighting? godfather (25)
86642 2002-10-09 22:42:00 Thanks all
Have sorted it out - The Video card has only 8MB RAM and solved problem by reducing from 24 Bit to HiColor 16 Bit
Cheers
