87022 2002-10-07 23:16:00 I have a problem that developed without any reason that I
could see.
I use the United States-International keyboard layout in Windows Me
because it allows me to enter Pan-Europian characters by
first pressing the overlay characters (' " ~ ^) and then
the character above which I want the overlay character.
This worked beautifully for YEARS.
Suddenly for no appearent reason it stopped working.
What I now get is a double '' or "" or ^^ or ~~.
I have re-installed Windows SEVERAL times, having chosen
the US-International keyboard layout, to no avail.
Can anyone help me with this ? I''m tearing my hair out... and not much left ;-((
Thanks in advance, George

87023 2002-10-08 04:33:00 Where are you looking for your keyboard layout? In Control Panel's Language settings? Susan B (19)
87024 2002-10-08 10:25:00 Yes, in the language setting.
I have 2 keyboards settings, one the normal US 101 keys, the other US-International.
Everything's the way I have set it up for YEARS, (in other versions of Windows too) and working.
Suddenly, from one day to the next it just stopped doing what it ought to.
NOW I have to press Ctrl+' and then the character, such as "A" to get Á
A real pain and I now find it difficult to type in another language because of the extra keystroke.
Strangely, on my other machine the same thing still works. And the keyboard is set up the same way.
Thanks for your interest. I hope you have some ideas, I ran out of them.

87025 2002-10-10 03:22:00 Is there a similar option setting in Word (or whatever)? Microsoft tend to hide things in multiple places ... Graham L (2)
87026 2002-10-10 19:10:00 The setting in the Control Panel is supposed to be system-wide (and was in the past) , and that is what I want. I can solve the problem in Word with keyboard macros, but I use programs other than Microsoft, and that is where I run into problems ;-))) GeeBee (1107)
