| 86903 | 2002-10-07 19:53:00 | When e-mails are in "Inbox", to delete them, they have to be highlighted. Once highlighted, does this actually OPEN the mail? I have FROM and SUBJECT bar right down at the bottom, so can't SEE the message..... but have noticed today, that once highlighted, the envelope is OPEN. Won't that let a virus in ? The "Unknown" one looks like a message from a friend....but dont know any one by those initials. It is 2nd down on the list, still "closed". Does this make sense....trying to make it easy to understand. Know the meaning of paranoia, ....too beautiful a day for that....just kidding. Appreciate any help. Also have another question regarding ordinary computer techniques.....do you answer those too.?? Will post later. |

The main problem with Outlook and Outlook Express is that if you are using the preview pane, the virus may open automatically. You can turn the preview pane on or on by choosing View :: Preview Pane on the menu up the top. From memory, the emails will only show as unread (open envelope) if you click on them and the preview pane in turned on, or if you open them completely. |

Yes, it can let a virus in, especially having the preview window at the bottom (even if it's down the bottom the preview is displayed). You need to turn the Preview window off. What email program are you using? Outlook? Outlook Express? If you can post back with which one you use, I can try to explain how to turn the preview off. Once the preview is off, you can safely delete the email just by highlighting (don't double-click because that will also open the email) and deleting. > Also have another question regarding ordinary > ry computer techniques.....do you answer those too.?? What other questions do you have? Don't hold back on any questions - we're here to help with whatever we can :) Mike. |

| 86906 | 2002-10-07 20:08:00 | If you have Preview pane selected and it sounds as if you have then it will open the message when you click on the header. If you click on the divider and drag up you will see the opened message in the lower pane. To select a message and delete without opening it select View tab at the top and go to Layout Remove the tick from preview pane and Apply and Ok |

| 86908 | 2002-10-07 20:58:00 | Maryann.. do you have any virus software installed? Perhaps you should look at taking the extra measure and getting some protection. Just don't forget to set the signature updates to upload every day so that you get all of the latest virus protection. It will certainly give you peace of mind! You can download AVG from here (www.grisoft.com 47f) |
