86781 2002-10-07 06:32:00 I've just bought a new box, MB, CPU .
I'm trying to screw my MB into the box but it has 9 raised screw holes and numerous flat screw holes. Also the new i-cute box only had 3 of the brass screw-in raiser things that hold the board off the case. If I screw the brass things into the raised screwholes (they look like miniture volcanos raising up from the back-plate) the ports on the MB are too high to line up with the holes for them in the back of the case.
I was wondering if the board just sits on the raised bits and the brass things are for the holes that don't line up with the raised bits. But the board is not supposed to touch the case! This must be a common thing, how is it resolved. I am desperate and dying to get my new machine up and running. Please help.

86782 2002-10-07 07:03:00 firstly seeing as you are actually asking this question STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND READ THE MANUALS.

the case has a couple of raised bits on the backplate for some of the holes for the motherboard to connect to. the metal stand offs are required for the other mounting points on the motherboard. IF YOU INSTALL THE MOTHERBOARD WITH THE STANDOFFS NOT LINEING UP YOU WILL DAMAGE THE BOARD.

be carefull you do not scratch the back of the board and there is nothing shorting any connections to the case.

86783 2002-10-07 07:07:00 I only needed one of the brass risers with my iCute case. The rest lined up with the pre-raised parts of the case.

Just go for it, and have a look to make sure that it isn't shorting on the case.

86784 2002-10-07 12:33:00 thanks for your help so quickly. I've installed the board and it all lined up well. Thanks for your quick answer to my post (my first one).
I thought that the board had to be separated from the back plate with the brass raiser things, though if I think about it brass conducts electricity anyway. I was so paranoid about shorting out the case I stuck some duct tape around the top of the raised bits on the back plate so that the board was not sitting directly on the backplate but that was stupid too since surely the screws would be conducting anyway. I haven't powered up the board yet since I'm still a little paranoid (it is my first MB installation) and I thought I'd give the shop a ring tomorrow, just to double cheak.
Thanks again for your help, it's appreciated

86785 2002-10-07 23:46:00 its good to be carefull :)

the brass risers are ment to contact the board but only in the correct places (where the screws go through). they contact the earth side provideing a motherboard to case earth connection. however you don't want it connecting anywhere esle on the board.
