86769 2002-10-07 06:21:00 I have just noticed my clock has not switched time for DLS. In fact New Zealand is not mentioned in the Time Zone drop down and the box to "automatically adjust for DLS" is grayed out on the time and clock controls. How do I activate this box? OS/ME Thank you Alfonso (2166)
86770 2002-10-07 06:26:00 Instead of New Zealand, look for Auckland, Wellington, enter that and the box "should" then be active. ( at least that is for Win98, should be the same for ME) Terry Porritt (14)
86771 2002-10-07 06:27:00 So...what country is the setting showing under control panel - regional settings? godfather (25)
86772 2002-10-07 20:57:00 No luck I'm afraid. There is no NewZealand or any NZ city shown under Date/Time Properties. The closest is Fiji, Kamchatka, Marshall Islands which are all GMT+12. Even changing to another time zone doesnt activate the auto dls box. Alfonso (2166)
86773 2002-10-07 20:59:00 New Zealand is selected under Regional settings in Control Panel, but there is still no time zone setting for NZ under Date/Time properties. Alfonso (2166)
86774 2002-10-07 23:48:00 That is really strange. Countries which dont apply daylight saving will show a greyed box if selected. In Win98, Auckland, Wellington is immediately above Fiji, Kamchatka, Marshall Is. Try selecting say Vladivostock and see if the box is activated. If it does activate, you may be missing the entry for New Zealand in the Time Zones entry in the registry.
Use regedit and navigate your way to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Time Zones\

Scroll down and see if New Zealand is listed, highlight it and see what entries are in the right hand pane. Dont actually alter anything.

There is a FAQ on the registry, click on FAQs at top right.

If there is nothing there I could make up a .reg file for you to import into the registry and hopefully this would restore functionality.
However if no amount of country selection enables the check box, the problem is elsewhere.

86775 2002-10-08 01:08:00 You are quite right. Selecting Vladivostock activates the box. New Zealand is in the REG but the data for Display, DlT, and Std is missing. MapID=78,79
TZI=00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,c4,ff,ff,ff,00,00,03,0 0,00,00,03,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,0a,00, 00,00,01,00,02,00,00,00,00,00,00,00

I would be grateful for a reg file or the correct values.
Thanks a lot

86776 2002-10-08 02:11:00 Good, I think you have found the problem.
This is the entry exported from my registry as a .reg file. Copy it and paste to notepad, save it as nztime.reg or similar name as long as it has the .reg extension. Then double clicking onto the .reg file will put it into the registry. I hope F1 doesnt muck up the format:

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Time Zones\New Zealand]
"Display"="(GMT+12:00) Auckland, Wellington"
"Dlt"="New Zealand Daylight Time"
"Std"="New Zealand Standard Time"
"MapID"="78,79"
"TZI"=hex:30,fd,ff,ff,00,00,00,00,c4,ff,ff,ff,00,00,03, 00,00,00,03,00,02,00,00,\
00,00,00,00,00,00,00,0a,00,00,00,01,00,02,00,00,00 ,00,00,00,00

I also tested this by deleting the key in a Win95 set up, and importing this file back in. Hopefully it should be exactly the same key in Win ME.

Good luck.

86777 2002-10-08 03:16:00 For some reason the .reg file didn't import to the right location, even though it said it had. I wonder where it went to! But, I entered the values manually and after a bit of fiddling with the TZI bits it all worked. New Zealand is back in place with a working box.

Thank you very much.

86778 2002-10-08 04:34:00 Glad you got it working. I think the problem you had was PressF1 mucking up the formatting of the file. I've just noticed it had put a space in Current Version that shouldnt be there. It keeps doing things like this, in urls too, and then they dont work.
I should've noticed and mentioned it
